The SCV commemorates the honorable history and memory of our Confederate forefathers and the causes for which they created a nation based on principles of states rights that are still relevant today and fought overwhelming odds to defend. The SCV is dedicated to preservation of this noble heritage and legacy.Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.comBlogger1580125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-56056269527341122852024-03-12T10:00:00.001-05:002024-03-12T10:00:00.145-05:00Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Commander's Column for March 2024 - Who is Behind the Attacks on Our Culture and Heritage and Why<p> <span style="text-indent: 0.2in;">My daughter said that she and her friends at school were talking the
other day about books being marketed to children with LGBQT themes and she
asked why would anyone do that sort of thing?</span><span style="text-indent: 0.2in;">
</span><span style="text-indent: 0.2in;">I took it as an opportunity to discuss with her the forces at work today
attempting to destroy the United States of America and the ideals on which the
founders established our republic and the attacks on the nuclear family and
white Anglo-Saxon Christian culture.</span><span style="text-indent: 0.2in;">
</span><span style="text-indent: 0.2in;">There is a cabal of anti-American, anti-white, anti-Christian forces
which have succeeded in gaining a foothold in our country’s institutions and
seek to destroy the foundation on which our nation was established and remake it
as a socialist body under CRT and DEI pillars.</span><span style="text-indent: 0.2in;"> </span></p><div style="border-bottom: solid windowtext 1.0pt; border: none; mso-border-bottom-alt: solid windowtext .5pt; mso-element: para-border-div; padding: 0in 0in 1.0pt 0in;">
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">Former Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev forewarned, “We will take
America without firing a shot ... we will bury you!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We can't expect the American people to jump
from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving
them small doses of socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have
communism.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We do not have to invade the
United States, we will destroy you from within."<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That’s the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There are now more avowed
socialists serving in the United States Congress than at any time in our
history, members of or politicians endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of
America, nine including Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Omar etc.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But the very Democrat party today espouses a
Marxist and socialist platform including debt forgiveness, a massive welfare
state with subsidized housing, (diversity) quotas, government
intervention/control in industry thru massive reulation, one-payer universal
healthcare and, embracing progressive cultural norms like LGBQT and racial
equity.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> The Chinese communists are using state sponsored economic warfare to gain disproportionate trade advantages to build their military while infiltrating our borders with Chinese nationalists and spying on our populace with Chinese cyber TikTok applications marketed to our youth. </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">This has been decades in evolving to this point, the disintegration of
the concepts and ideals on which the nation (and the Confederacy) was founded
including egalitarianism (not equity), self determination and liberty (not
socialism), and a nation founded under the blessings of God (not LGBQT pride
and abortion rights blasphemies).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Russian President Vladimir Putin has decried the moral decay of the west
including America so it is not purely the work of foreign communist
elements.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>BLM is a Marxist organization which
has pushed Critical Race Theory, the destruction of the nuclear family as well
as American/western institutions so much so they literally burned cities to the
ground, DE&I and racial equity agendas amazingly seeing them implemented
into schools and businesses in a knee-jerk response to a fentanyl induced death
of a career felon in the name of racial justice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Crazy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>And anti-American.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Don’t attack
them or you’ll be labeled a bigoted racist, a white-nationalist targeted by the
federal government law enforcement. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">Similarly don’t attack the Jewish power structure which has become
embedded in the educational, governmental, financial and entertainment sectors
of our country in inordinate numbers and positions of power far outweighing
their population furthering Israeli interests and conceivably endangering
national security and certainly compromising our Christian moral
foundations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Their infiltration and
elevation to these powerful positions in America and throughout the world has
been many years coming - one need only recall Judah Benjamin as one of the most
powerful figures in the Confederate administration.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Jews of course from a Biblical
perspective believe they are God’s chosen people (and refute the deity of Jesus
and the foundations of Christianity) and that Gentiles are beneath their
station, no doubt long bemoaning the influence of the Christian founders of the
United States.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">At the risk of being branded as antisemite thought which is perhaps
the worst conceivable label in mainstream thinking, it would be conceivable
that they would seek to undermine the ideals espoused by our nations’ founders
to further strengthen their position of authority and power including degrading
our nation’s Christian values and morals thru LGBQT indoctrination as an
acceptable alternative to the nuclear family
(https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2013/05/22/biden-jewish-leaders-helped-gay-marriage-succeed/

) incessantly broadcasting representations in television shows and
advertisements and Hollywood movies, backing a pornographic onslaught

and clinics

) all backed at the highest levels of academia as normalcy and bankrolled for
an incessant indoctrination.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In
“Whatever You Do, Don’t Mention the Jews” -<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>https://www.firstthings.com/article/2002/05/whatever-you-do-dont-mention-the-jews,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“Referring to Jewish domination of the media,
Rev Billy Graham said, “This stranglehold has got to be broken or this
country’s going down the drain.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To
which President Nixon concurred. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“Jews
have a disproportionate influence in American society. But of course that is no
secret at all; it is the obvious fact. About 2 percent of the population, a
little over five million people, exercise an influence far out of proportion to
their numbers. In certain sectors of American life—notably in media,
entertainment, prestige research universities, and to a lesser extent in
finance—people in that 2 percent hold 20, 40, or even more than 50 percent of
the positions of greatest influence. It is quite astonishing. It is clearly
disproportionate. “<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also in the highest
levels of the federal government.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">So why the promotion of an immoral agenda and the destruction of our
American heritage? Always follow the money.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>From an historical perspective where Jews have been subjected to attacks
and even genocide, it furthers their collective pursuit of safety, security and
power…money<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>(even at the cost of
diminishing others) which is acceptable as they are, they believe, God’s chosen
people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>BLM attempts to indoctrinate
children with CRT and embed themselves in positions of power thru DE&I
programs in educational and business institutions in the pursuit of money and
power; BLM espouses Marxism as their solution to the socio-economic disparity
plaguing black society.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The current
Democrat party seeks to weaken the power and influence of white Anglo-Saxon
Protestants today thru an unrestricted immigration policy at our Southern
border open to illegal migrants from Mexico and South America and elsewhere,
swelling the numbers of Hispanic minorities as they seek to gain a long term
voting block of them at the expense of a massive welfare system burden as well
as increasing the prevalence of third-world diseases and illegal drugs entering
the country.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s a power move to embed
the Democrats as the predominant political party in America for generations
while creating a welfare class perpetually dependent on the government
handouts.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And the RINOs can’t hardly be
differentiated from the Democrats – it’s becoming a one party system, a Marxist
socialist system.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Washington has the
same ruling elites as the oligarchs and Politburo in the USSR or the CCP, even
taking a page out of their Marxist brothers’ playbook in squashing dissent thru
fascist partnership with and control and use of the media and social
media.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>All the while padding their nest
egg and leaving Washington DC as multi-millionaires.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Always follow the money.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our founding fathers and Confederate heroes
would not recognize the country and culture they bequeathed to us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is our responsibility to “commit the
vindication of the cause for which (they) fought”, “the preservation of liberty
and freedom, rights guaranteed by the Constitution, (which) was the motivating
factor in the South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution.”

studying the book of Job. We are all familiar with the tale of Job and his
suffering. We have even sung hymns about the "patience of Job." But
how does the book relate to us and our lives? And Why do good people suffer?
Why does it seem that the wicked prosper and the righteous are the ones who
never seem to “get ahead?” Why does God “allow” bad things to happen to people
who we feel don’t deserve it? Why do we feel we could do a better job of
dispensing justice to the universe than God can? These and other hard biblical
questions seem to permeate throughout the Book of Job. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">After all his suffering Job believes that if he could just "pull
God into court" and plead his case then God would wipe away his
"mistaken" case of suffering. But he realized that God was too
powerful to face alone and asked in the verse above for a "defense
attorney," or mediator, to plead his case. Job did not realize that he was
making a prophecy. Hundereds of years later we got that mediator in the form of
our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Jesus went to the cross to plead our case, bear our
sentence, before God. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Pastor Ray Stedman puts it thusly, "Job is laying the foundation
here in his own understanding for the tremendous revelation that comes in the
New Testament when God becomes man. God takes our place, lives as we live,
feels as we feel, solves the great problem between us and God, and brings the
two—God and man—together. For the first time in Job, we begin to sense what God
is driving at."<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">We also have that that blessed assurance that our sins are forgiven. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">But it does not answer the question of why good people suffer? Why does
it seem that oftentimes the wicked prosper? Job's friends believed in Divine
Retribution. They believed that when someone is suffering they must have sinned
and are being punished for it. They insisted Job and his family must have
sinned, refused to confess and was being punished accordingly. But.. he didn't
and wasn't. Job was blameless. He had not sinned. God had allowed Satan to test
Job by taking away everything that was dear to him. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Thus Job maintained that it was a case of mistaken identity. Job did
exactly what we do when we go through a time of suffering and pain. We ask
"why?" The difference we are not blameless. But we have the mediator
that Job desired and lacked. We have the confidence of Jesus. In the last
chapters of Job, God answers Job by explaining to him why He is not to be
questioned. After God shows Job the error of his ways, Job merely says, "I
have already said too much and I will now cover my mouth." <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">The key to Job is that while he questioned God's sense of justice, he
remained faithful to God throughout. He did not, as his wife suggested, curse
God and die. That is lesson in all of this. It is normal to question why. It is
what makes us human. But we have to trust God and remain faithful even when
things don't turn the way we want them to. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">When you go back and read Job, when you see or experience suffering it

Chaplain Brantley opened the meeting with an Invocation followed by Brigade Commander Grooms leading everyone in the pledges and salutes to the flags. Commander Waldo then recited the SCV Charge and welcomed the guests including two prospective members. The upcoming events were then enumerated and a business portion of the meeting was conducted taking nominations for the camp officers' positions which will be voted on at the next march camp meeting for men to serve in the coming year.</p><p>Army of Tennessee Commander and past Alabama Division Commander Jimmy Hill was the guest speaker and he provided updates including photographs of the SCV National Museum at Elm Springs TN. He began with a slide of General Robert E. Lee and a quote of his, "The education of a man is never completed until he dies." The quote emphasized Jimmy's point that the SCV National Museum is an educational museum not simply showing artifacts but telling the true history story of the Southern states thru a timeline, a concept envisioned first by past Commander in Chief Chuck McMichael. The museum started as an empty building but it now contains permanent and loaned displays throughout with an entrance welcoming visitors with a display including a cannon donated by the Alabama Division and the photo of a young anonymous Confederate soldier. </p><p>The timeline begins at 1607 with the founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. The timeline is displayed with dates along with top of the walls in a maroon strip above the displays. Carl Jones article "Forming the Country" is displayed in this area; QR codes are found throughout the museum providing a way for visitors to get additional information about specific displays. In 1819 Alabama entered the Union and the timeline shows a portrait of John C. Calhoun there at that timeline spot. Important events which shaped the nation and the south are mentioned along the timeline including tariff crises and the nullification crisis and western expansion. One interesting and perhaps controversial display is that of Harriet Beecher Stowe whose book (an 1852 edition of which is on display), "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was said to have caused the War Between the States. Slave stories/narratives are related - some tell stories of slaves who fondly remember their masters and felt they were part of the family.</p><p>From the War period, the anchor from the Star of the West is on display - this was the Union ship sent to resupply Ft. Sumter and which was seeking to sneak 200 Union troops in to reinforce the fort. A carriage from one of Gen. Pendleton's cannons, the Mathew gun is on display - he had four artillery pieces which he names Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. A number of Confederate uniforms are on display including a vest worn by Gen. Forrest which has a blood stained bullet hole in the back. One display is entitled Our Confederate Heroes and shows photographs of a couple of heroes identified by each Division of the SCV - those for Alabama include Capt. Jefferson Falkner who founded the Confederate Veterans Home in Marbury following the War and "The Gallant" John Pelham, horse artillery officer under Gen Stuart who was cited by General Lee for his "unflinching courage" during the Battle of Fredericksburg. </p><p>A religious section of the museum tells the story of the Great Revival of the Southern Army with photos of Gen Stonewall Jackson and his pastor on display there. A section on Reconstruction shows actual carpet bags which were emblematic of the Yankee's who tormented the Southern families following the War. Actual restored/conserved battle flags are on display including one which was that from Union Col Streight captured by Gen. Forrest. Another is an original Confederate Battle Flag from South Carolina. A life size portrait of Sam Davis is displayed - the Boy Hero of the Confederacy, Sam was hung by Union soldiers at the age of 21 in Pulaski County TN accused as a spy. There is even a section showing Confederate memorabilia part of pop culture including movie posters and an original edition book of "Gone with the Wind", advertisements, NASCAR photos, and even a Duke of Hazzard lunch box. Jimmy emphasized that you could spend the better part of a day perusing all the displays and information in the museum. Following the meeting, Commander Waldo presented Jimmy with a check from the camp for $250 for the SCV Museum, continuing donations made by Camp 1524 for this wonderful treasure of the foremost Confederate historical organization, the Sons of Confederate Veterans. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19g5SlWnsH5uAc5nqN-ZR6wM9auLvcvCeTu-zW4TJqCKxb0uysWSYIfzCkBfzN3CcHyCtEgYdzJFimHSx1EzG9fuUzctoK6BBknzF0oFL3hsSEPR69CgMoOO4lHq4HNEr5kKWWpb4WZ-ldoGPaiKBevL6qMJayNDrK3sZcYlFg3TCZcjjC_Yh7-2Asc8f/s1008/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh19g5SlWnsH5uAc5nqN-ZR6wM9auLvcvCeTu-zW4TJqCKxb0uysWSYIfzCkBfzN3CcHyCtEgYdzJFimHSx1EzG9fuUzctoK6BBknzF0oFL3hsSEPR69CgMoOO4lHq4HNEr5kKWWpb4WZ-ldoGPaiKBevL6qMJayNDrK3sZcYlFg3TCZcjjC_Yh7-2Asc8f/s320/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%201.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nURfptJ-IXqMbVYHHjg_seBtYK_fGy_SwgEoKBA7TYQAEc8tsUlLMX0HvjAZvlQhiYkA3HNww5mtBP9md1IFg7pQpSmEYcERv6GkuF_g4nxM7zz4ii3mny4Dp4oOIlIauOh7LTG18gDSAVRGqxv13u7HI2UKpg_9badUMiJn68GWHAmT-ELW6DeBigjJ/s1008/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2nURfptJ-IXqMbVYHHjg_seBtYK_fGy_SwgEoKBA7TYQAEc8tsUlLMX0HvjAZvlQhiYkA3HNww5mtBP9md1IFg7pQpSmEYcERv6GkuF_g4nxM7zz4ii3mny4Dp4oOIlIauOh7LTG18gDSAVRGqxv13u7HI2UKpg_9badUMiJn68GWHAmT-ELW6DeBigjJ/s320/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%202.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmS30Ap_y_b19PIxgtd7JfUtCPoV3kLpF7M9ZK4LRZIDZntj4C3_shpRhhmKxWPRMQtlcx0Szc9p10mSJfZuBP2DHL6UdEW-c6zcOgzv3JFuwJeoZrqsxJiFRBspdkIj3aAaf_W1sWM0cS3tTba0HmJWR-63JMNn9eWGTDhVri-N-SCslE1-YbRiRBfL4a/s1008/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%203.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmS30Ap_y_b19PIxgtd7JfUtCPoV3kLpF7M9ZK4LRZIDZntj4C3_shpRhhmKxWPRMQtlcx0Szc9p10mSJfZuBP2DHL6UdEW-c6zcOgzv3JFuwJeoZrqsxJiFRBspdkIj3aAaf_W1sWM0cS3tTba0HmJWR-63JMNn9eWGTDhVri-N-SCslE1-YbRiRBfL4a/s320/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%203.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiktBjpzduPKcYPoa-72tm-W2E2u139xAWqzP3OPvqSe-Fo84q6xaazxc6RSqvH9-B_g0zHOUX3k-P94Tn-dccy4l1T0YjkvS4ucoOQ1ruNnMMp7AxG0U-8Az7K7jVGwZdIfqyPBGwuinSFWYNMQ5bRDHr8XjuNbTpfKGqxRHgAOTVEj-pHfe3mZAlzY7u8/s1008/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%204.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1008" data-original-width="756" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiktBjpzduPKcYPoa-72tm-W2E2u139xAWqzP3OPvqSe-Fo84q6xaazxc6RSqvH9-B_g0zHOUX3k-P94Tn-dccy4l1T0YjkvS4ucoOQ1ruNnMMp7AxG0U-8Az7K7jVGwZdIfqyPBGwuinSFWYNMQ5bRDHr8XjuNbTpfKGqxRHgAOTVEj-pHfe3mZAlzY7u8/s320/Camp%20Meeting%20Feb%202024%204.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-60547732629986098142024-02-12T10:00:00.001-06:002024-02-12T10:00:00.138-06:00Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Chaplain’s Column for January 2024 - When Facing a Storm, Trust God<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><a name="OLE_LINK565"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">"Can any of you

Opal blew through the area. Many of you will remember Opal as a particularly
vicious storm that was still powerful as it reached my parent's home in
Marietta. I remember watching the trees whip back and forth and crash all
around us. My Mom and I made a bee-line for the safety of the basement. We sat
down in the dark worrying that this might be the end. Meanwhile my dad was
sound asleep upstairs in his bedroom without a worry in the world. The next
morning it looked like a bomb had gone off. There were trees everywhere but
none had hit the house!<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Why did my Dad remain so calm in the face of the storm? Well, two
reasons. One, he was from the Mobile/ Brewton area originally, so hurricanes
were nothing to him and second, and more importantly, he felt if it was his
time that the Lord would call him home or protect him otherwise. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Now, I am not recommending not seeking shelter in a storm, but my dad
faced down the storm as David faced down Goliath with confidence. Both knew
that their God was bigger than the storm or obstacle before them. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">How do we face the storms in our life? Do we waste days worrying? I know
several people in my life who will worry about something even when there is
nothing to worry about yet. We worry about a potential doctor's prognosis or
possibly an expensive bill for the car or the house repair. I admit that
sometimes I am guilty of it as well. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">But when I read the above verse from Matthew, Jesus' words hit home.
What good has worrying done for me? Has it helped with finances? Found a new
home or a better job? No. Not once. As I read once, "all worrying does is
make us forget that our future really isn't our future: it's God's." We'll
experience our future, but we don't possess it or have control over it, God
does. And that's a good thing. The future is God's because He's the only one
who can control it. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">I think of my Dad often and when I am facing a storm I remember the
confidence he had in the Lord when staring down his. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">So let us rest in this: the future is God's, so instead of worrying
about it, we should trust the One who controls it. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Amen.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-30855959099038581612024-02-10T10:00:00.001-06:002024-02-10T10:00:00.138-06:00Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 at the Millbrook Revelers' Mardi Gras Festival and Parade<p>This year's edition of the Millbrook Mardi Gras Festival and Parade had to be postponed one week due to inclement weather on the Saturday planned, last of January. The weather was beautiful on Saturday February 3rd and the crowds showed up at the festival in Millbrook's Village Green Park which lasted from 9am til 3pm. There were many food and craft vendors and the Dragoons had a booth where they gave away mini-Battle flags and SCV coins and AL Division education posters while selling license plates, 3x5 flags, and ballcaps emblazoned with Confederate and historical period flags. It was a very successful effort led by Quartermaster Bill Myrick who stayed all day along with Treasurer Billy Leverette. Compatriots Darrell Haywood and Rob Schwartz also were there for most of the day at the festival and they were joined by Brigade Commander Harold Grooms, compatriot Thomas Griffith and camp Commander Waldo. A very successful campaign with many items sold and many new friends made and potential members provided information about the camp and the SCV. At 11am the parade lineup started at Millbrook's Mill Creek Park. Compatriot Larry Miller carried the camp Mardi Gras banner across the front of his truck. Harold and Thomas walked the parade route handing out mini-Battle flags to parade onlookers who clamored for them. Commander Waldo and his son drove a Mardi Gras purple Charger next which had Confederate Battle flags flying from the rear passenger windows. Then, five members and prospective members of the Mechanized Cavalry rode their Harley Davidsons as the ultimate portion of the Dragoons' entry. Thousands of spectators lined Main Street and the Dragoons handed out hundreds of mini-Battle flags and SCV recruiting coins as well as lots of candy to everyone. The parade is billed as the largest Mardi Gras parade north of Mobile. It was a very enjoyable Confederate Mardi Gras celebration with the Revelers. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwQ2Lkl4ajKCaYgOqhHHI_8cBeHoE0yhCMhnWPztWejw8QOpkmujGmRv7kdpa_FXrbskFv4Sr7yBVVBKerDz8vot01KiHaPpp99P4rpWP90owWn1RQa-0A4wI3j9L5x0E51pipCQi8350yc0sfBLAA_OcqVkxOUBOSkRlqi3xXxvGzV7yl7mVkb3Mhoy39/s1008/Mardi%20Gras%202024%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; in the mainstream indoctrination media. This
provides an opportunity to review the truth around some of the myths
surrounding the slaves and freedmen in the South during the period around the War
for Southern Independence. Not to be
forgotten is Juneteenth which falls outside of February. This newly invented holiday supposedly
celebrates the last slaves being freed in Texas in June of 1865 with the surrender
of the last Confederate troops. Unfortunately
it erroneously associates those events whereas the last slaves were of course
freed in Yankee New Jersey in January of 1866 when that state ratified the 13th
Amendment - <a href="https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/essex/montclair/2021/02/28/american-dream-paramus-nj-part-north-jersey-slavery-legacy/4212248001/#:~:text=The%20last%2016%20enslaved%20people,about%20New%20Jersey's%20slave%20history">https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/essex/montclair/2021/02/28/american-dream-paramus-nj-part-north-jersey-slavery-legacy/4212248001/#:~:text=The%20last%2016%20enslaved%20people,about%20New%20Jersey's%20slave%20history</a>
. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It is also generally accepted that all blacks were freedmen
who served in the Union army.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In fact, the
Southern states had thousands of blacks both freed and serving as slaves who
served the Confederate army as body or personal servants to their masters who
were serving in a unit, cooks, wagon team drivers, laborers but also as soldiers
fighting alongside whites in defense of their homeland.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Officers often had such body servants and
some were credited with caring for their masters injured in battle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They were also recognized as Confederate
soldiers and pensioners.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>(<a href="https://fairfieldgenealogysociety.org/Members_Only/PDF/Articles/Body-Servants.pdf">https://fairfieldgenealogysociety.org/Members_Only/PDF/Articles/Body-Servants.pdf</a>
) <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the “American Conflict”, abolitionist Horace Greeley even
stated, “For more than two years, Negroes had been extensively employed in
belligerent operations by the Confederacy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>They had been embodied and drilled as rebel soldiers and had paraded
with white troops at a time when this would not have been tolerated in the armies
of the Union.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“In 1861 (he Tennessee
legislature) passed the Act for the Relief of Volunteers stating, “the governor
is hereby authorized, at his discretion, to receive into the military service
of the state, all male free persons of color between the ages of fifteen and
fifty years —who may be sound in his mind and body, and capable of actual
service. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That such free persons of color
shall receive, each, eight dollars per month as pay, for such person shall be
entitled to draw, each, one ration per day, and shall be entitled to a yearly
allowance each for clothing.”” (<a href="https://www.timesnews.net/living/features/were-black-confederate-soldiers-real-or-postwar-propaganda/article_cbcbfbcc-cc19-5f3b-b8b7-8d62f4883e59.html">https://www.timesnews.net/living/features/were-black-confederate-soldiers-real-or-postwar-propaganda/article_cbcbfbcc-cc19-5f3b-b8b7-8d62f4883e59.html</a>)
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This same article recounts of course those black men who
served with Forrest’s cavalry numbering around forty-five.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Forrest offered them their freedom if they
fought for him and all did even til death and to the end of the WBTS.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Nelson Winbush is an SCV member whose “grandfather
Louis Napoleon Nelson, a slave turned freedman rode with Forrest in the 7th
Tennessee Cavalry, an integrated unit. According to records, Nelson fought at
Shiloh, Lookout Mountain, Brice’s Crossroads and Vicksburg. He later became the
7th Tennessee Cavalry’s chaplain.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Holt Collier was a black man in Mississippi “given his
freedom papers (he) followed his former owner Howell Hinds to Memphis to join
the Confederate Army where he first served as an orderly in a field hospital,
then actively fought as a soldier, and served as a spy. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Collier (later) joined the Ninth Texas
Calvary, riding with them until the end of the war.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>(<a href="https://www.lowerdelta.org/community-news/the-amazing-holt-collier-mississippis-famous-hunting-guide/#:~:text=Holt%20Collier%20was%20born%20a,successful%20hunter%20and%20hunting%20guide">https://www.lowerdelta.org/community-news/the-amazing-holt-collier-mississippis-famous-hunting-guide/#:~:text=Holt%20Collier%20was%20born%20a,successful%20hunter%20and%20hunting%20guide</a>.)<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He became well known after the WBTS as a
hunter and sportsman and famously led President Theodore Roosevelt on a bear
hunt in Mississippi in 1902.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">While the Union army often used blacks as cannon fodder in
battle, many can’t understand why blacks would have fought for the Confederacy
but one has to consider the allegiance to their homes and families who they
were defending and to their masters many of whom they held genuine
affection.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Edward C. Smith, a professor
at American University in Washington, D.C., studied this phenomenon and concluded,
“What many Americans forget is that there were 5,000 black soldiers that fought
with George Washington during the Revolutionary War. And of course in (the War
of) 1812 Andrew Jackson, who praised the blacks in his service profusely, also
knew that those blacks were taking a risk fighting for the United States
government. So if blacks can fight for George Washington, it’s hard for me to
reject the idea that their grandsons could not have fought for Robert E. Lee.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I think the problem we have today is that
most Americans have a difficult time accepting the past because we read into
the past the prejudices of the present. The moment you do that you’re not
dealing with history.”<o:p></o:p></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-85724483719798249592024-02-06T10:00:00.001-06:002024-02-06T10:00:00.141-06:00Upcoming Events for Confederate Compatriots<p> </p><p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-align: center; text-autospace: none;"><a name="OLE_LINK3"><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Upcoming

It was a cold morning but everyone had fun at the range. There were about twenty five shooters and entry fees paid helped sponsor a youth team at the state championships. The Dragoons went by the camp name for their team name as that was appropriate. Member Philip Edwards was the team captain and recruited for the team which consisted also of member Todd Rogers and friends/compatriots Buddy Hoff, Lee James and Scott Thibodeaux. The Dragoons came in second place among the four teams which also consisted of a number of professional shooters to round out each team to six members. Thibodeaux also won a trophy for his great shooting. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpZb-QS4L4FMHzwRlJpCmdo3XWwiETHkF8eXSkcYT2O78mqy10ztXmP6e7GURvX6QCzQEFqimJSDEXYF29hsf8QW2L5x8u289R0CPekyNLupKFkH9oZbq02Tq64JrGQxT71rpuLtYBZNYRMnrT3sMOazg3OzT1CL_0bYpITVpyhVIt94IE1zC-RspoJp7j/s2048/Division%20Clay%20Shoot%202024%201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It was a light turnout as a number of folks were dealing with the flu in their households and others were traveling or otherwise had conflicts. But, it was a great meeting as the Dragoons welcomed and swore in a new member Chad Vaith. Brigade Commander Harold Grooms stood in for camp Commander Waldo in his absence and worked with Chaplain Brantley to perform the swearing in. Prior to the meeting, Rob again entertained everyone there with some music on his guitar. Harold also recited the SCV Charge and provided updates on upcoming events and news. Color Sgt Dennis led everyone in the pledges and salutes to the US, Alabama state and Confederate Battle flags. Division Lt Commander John Land was the guest speaker and he presented on various Confederate flags and the history and meaning behind them. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuBF0ULQeV6Bhk2jFD3knPBDKLUvn1GXTnKdIS8yoVQcHbB82u1HiORIy266vjIgw7AJYhyphenhyphenS_j6HZNckvuKa_KXRTFDzjQlqRUvwFcpZfljan3129-Q_IGfH-OrLVW_3VEDdaMxwcvwhVorjz8dMg9jre46Jlqg2po1rdxJ81iuu1hVOxLA4Rp552O-vk1/s4032/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuBF0ULQeV6Bhk2jFD3knPBDKLUvn1GXTnKdIS8yoVQcHbB82u1HiORIy266vjIgw7AJYhyphenhyphenS_j6HZNckvuKa_KXRTFDzjQlqRUvwFcpZfljan3129-Q_IGfH-OrLVW_3VEDdaMxwcvwhVorjz8dMg9jre46Jlqg2po1rdxJ81iuu1hVOxLA4Rp552O-vk1/s320/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%201.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPxfk7a4My8ej5uq-f4sKaRK-A0YR_VfOIFGXl_Bmsiy3HzB9Hl-anQpzUyi48WvRJyWYlQNjdpw0nmSvUEQOdXDqyw4V88rmTnNaOPbA51OK3qta5lMfArxgBUerkayjrRkyEweimWOEcep79DC2ASOG3CiqObmqne0vgce4dloyKpn-kDW5P371ryFRJ/s4080/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1836" data-original-width="4080" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPxfk7a4My8ej5uq-f4sKaRK-A0YR_VfOIFGXl_Bmsiy3HzB9Hl-anQpzUyi48WvRJyWYlQNjdpw0nmSvUEQOdXDqyw4V88rmTnNaOPbA51OK3qta5lMfArxgBUerkayjrRkyEweimWOEcep79DC2ASOG3CiqObmqne0vgce4dloyKpn-kDW5P371ryFRJ/s320/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%202.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8kFvyYsUGkgBbOn1uGwtQFSMpAw3AATYKPE2m6fGiRE-gx6HxJj0S25iVr6F3yy6wDsew9Ec0JCjsIhOP0NXZrnZ4xpeMqRPZe_7G9zAhZqiiGfB0jVjFRis5BHxdChH-aGXCKWHzp8laFWVYV3g-4z8ZHCP-JIOOeB079etMiFR5KFUlRHI0z2bX_EAR/s4032/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8kFvyYsUGkgBbOn1uGwtQFSMpAw3AATYKPE2m6fGiRE-gx6HxJj0S25iVr6F3yy6wDsew9Ec0JCjsIhOP0NXZrnZ4xpeMqRPZe_7G9zAhZqiiGfB0jVjFRis5BHxdChH-aGXCKWHzp8laFWVYV3g-4z8ZHCP-JIOOeB079etMiFR5KFUlRHI0z2bX_EAR/s320/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%203.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjykCiG4w6r4j7avfv6J8cWcHwOrjRCFvUD52-XNW2aEa3pw-ZfzmYbPwh9vOlcXTJ1qjdpbDuUSjiYiZ96Exfx_ZZUAbHcsXrV7rfGKjGxdL3568Jl5NpH-Zh0JK-XOwoDr_oUPc5apWono0GvxebSu2qsGGSxd77ZK5GUGwHyb0DHZskj55EA1b9bCKWQ/s4032/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjykCiG4w6r4j7avfv6J8cWcHwOrjRCFvUD52-XNW2aEa3pw-ZfzmYbPwh9vOlcXTJ1qjdpbDuUSjiYiZ96Exfx_ZZUAbHcsXrV7rfGKjGxdL3568Jl5NpH-Zh0JK-XOwoDr_oUPc5apWono0GvxebSu2qsGGSxd77ZK5GUGwHyb0DHZskj55EA1b9bCKWQ/s320/Jan%202024%20Camp%20Mtg%204.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-13525464021095895472024-01-09T11:00:00.001-06:002024-01-09T11:00:00.146-06:00Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Prattville Dragoons Commander's Column for January 2024 - Opportunities for Students of Southern History<p></p><div style="border-bottom: solid windowtext 1.0pt; border: none; mso-border-bottom-alt: solid windowtext .5pt; mso-element: para-border-div; padding: 0in 0in 1.0pt 0in;">
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">I have painstakingly worked to get my son and daughter enrolled in the
Children of the Confederacy which, as a part of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy has a very high bar for providing proof of eligibility.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But, hallelujah, we were finally able to
assemble all of the requisite paperwork and they will be members shortly.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They have attended a number of events and all
have been educational and worthwhile to help instill in them an appreciation of
their heritage, period history, and the honor due to the heroes who fought for
Southern independence.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As the CofC creed
states, they “desire to perpetuate, in love and honor, the heroic deeds of
those who enlisted in the Confederate Army, and upheld its flag through four
years of War, to preserve pure ideals, to honor our veterans, to study and
teach the truths of history and to always act in a manner that will reflect
honor upon our noble and patriotic ancestors.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>What an admirable recitation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>With obvious parallels to the SCV Charge -
“perpetuate”…“ideals”...”truth in history”.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>It also states that the War was not a rebellion and the underlying cause
was not the sustenance of slavery – real truths that enrage the politically correct
mainstream, indoctrinated by state educational systems which perpetuate
simpleton explanations to the real impetus behind the Southern states’
secession and the onslaught of Lincoln’s War and, who have attacked Southern
history and heritage over the past few years, even now reflected in the
despicable razing of monuments at Arlington for the Reconciliation of the
states following the War and to the Women of the Confederate home-front in
Jacksonville FL.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">Upon completion of the application process for the Children of the
Confederacy, my daughter was invited subsequently to provide the welcome
greetings and remarks at the upcoming SCV AL Division Robert E. Lee Birthday
Celebration.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This represents another
opportunity for her to make a public presentation in front of a large group, a
skill many of us shudder at the thought of performing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But it is something that we should be
comfortable in doing especially as pertains to presenting and defending our
Southern history and heritage.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And
easier still to introduce a man so universally recognized by U.S. Presidents
and esteemed historians throughout the world for his leadership, courage, and
duty and as a Christian man of integrity, humility, and faith.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As we continue through these dark days of
continuing attacks on our Southern heritage and Christian values, it is
reaffirming to be able to pay homage to one of history’s great figures, Robert
E. Lee, as representative of the Confederate Cause.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As President Eisenhower said, “General Robert
E. Lee was one of the supremely gifted men produced by our Nation. He believed
unswervingly in the Constitutional validity of his cause which until 1865 was
still an arguable question in America; he was a poised and inspiring leader, true
to the high trust reposed in him by millions of his fellow citizens; he was
thoughtful yet demanding of his officers and men, ingenious, unrelenting and
personally courageous in battle. Through all his many trials, he remained
selfless almost to a fault and unfailing in his faith in God. Taken altogether,
he was noble as a leader and as a man.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A
nation of men of Lee’s calibre would be unconquerable in spirit and soul.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Indeed, to the degree that present-day
American youth will strive to emulate his rare qualities, including his
devotion to this land as revealed in his painstaking efforts to help heal the
Nation’s wounds once the bitter struggle was over, we, in our own time of
danger in a divided world, will be strengthened and our love of freedom sustained.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA" style="text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">One of many Confederate men worthy of the Children of the Confederacy
and the Sons of Confederate veterans today to pay respect, honor and admiration
of their devotion to duty and their faith.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>As we enter January, a time where we specifically celebrate the
birthdays of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, make it a priority
to study the history of these great men and share with friends and family and
neighbors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Take advantage of the
resources which abound for becoming a student of Southern and Confederate
history including the SCV quarterly publications, websites like the Abbeville
Institute and, events including our own camp meetings and the upcoming Division
Education Conference and annual Reunion.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

are jettisoned by the end of January. Most blame unrealistic goals, etc. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

praise for God. No requests and no demands. Just praise. Even in times of

Commander Waldo with his two children drove their Dodge Charger with a couple of Confederate Battle flags waving from the back windows. Compatriot Larry Miller drove his truck to which the camp's Christmas banner was affixed across the front brush guard. Candy was thrown to children spectating along the parade route which ran from the Vida community center south on County Road 19 before doubling back. Hundreds of mini Battle flags and SCV recruiting coins were also handed out to spectators young and old along the route. The camp's entry was warmly greeted and practically mobbed for the flags which were subsequently displayed all along the roadside. Following the parade, the community hosted a BBQ lunch in the community center for all the participants and spectators which was a delicious plated of BBQ pork, beans, potato salad, cole slaw, chips, camp stew and homemade desserts from pecan pie to cakes and fudge. Always a wonderful Christmas event to ring in the holidays. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEHlNI2MD_nfjiMKI3sxmwBnOS8GPMn-nojEAeygEwFFMaWeKopDAq_xDcQMCJGzt7oNhshT-QkdxOm47oYilEBt1CS5VwZ9GnK6Lixm29EgjjdJuREIxmgLH8LTY3-0Pods7QErpvcGew7Rogsr7WcEFei_QttbSuP2WHu0v7X5Qt_x8QGyL331x89sMJ/s2000/Vida%20Xmas%202023%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2000" data-original-width="1500" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEHlNI2MD_nfjiMKI3sxmwBnOS8GPMn-nojEAeygEwFFMaWeKopDAq_xDcQMCJGzt7oNhshT-QkdxOm47oYilEBt1CS5VwZ9GnK6Lixm29EgjjdJuREIxmgLH8LTY3-0Pods7QErpvcGew7Rogsr7WcEFei_QttbSuP2WHu0v7X5Qt_x8QGyL331x89sMJ/s320/Vida%20Xmas%202023%201.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcOx0Z2V7bNvWTv9YiXAYvOjzQ68qJYJQhTpbQkQebO5esn57GUV92slYq_w3GJpYw8cEVb_j9IrN6FbnV31G0k8eGOutYZ1oZB0Tz0fPmLi0jr8jUw18pnRM15nJq1awXsv7GsIzkcRK-n64BN9sPp_A-LoCfXcI6pPXe_usoYSpYq14pdQFVGKxypVH1/s2000/Vida%20Xmas%202023%202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="2000" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcOx0Z2V7bNvWTv9YiXAYvOjzQ68qJYJQhTpbQkQebO5esn57GUV92slYq_w3GJpYw8cEVb_j9IrN6FbnV31G0k8eGOutYZ1oZB0Tz0fPmLi0jr8jUw18pnRM15nJq1awXsv7GsIzkcRK-n64BN9sPp_A-LoCfXcI6pPXe_usoYSpYq14pdQFVGKxypVH1/s320/Vida%20Xmas%202023%202.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-59070877039292080642023-12-18T10:00:00.001-06:002023-12-18T10:00:00.141-06:00Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign<p>Saturday, December 16th members of the Dragoons SCV camp 1524 withstood the cool damp weather to ring the bell and wish shoppers a "merry Christmas" while manning the red kettle at Winn Dixie in Prattville to help with the Salvation Army's annual Christmas Red Kettle donations campaign. 1st Lt Karl Wade took the lead in coordinating with the Salvation Army and enlisting volunteers for the camp's effort, manning the kettle from 9am til 8pm. This is an outstanding and worthwhile community service project which helps a large number of people in our area who really need it. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvvYqO8pFq7gg8qGc1g_Osa6NKwNbhsru55Kk89vvX7zoPWgSBgBeiiN6h9lP5tk1qJv5H6qPby75aO6keonJ_e79gjUDDy0NXkq1B9U8yN7W2x3mzctCGjFQR5WhiAg2Kkm_1NVCXNyKrrJgNVvHSzm_pUbt858FR27YjgyMmHCCSVqLkyqrp2mwLH_7x/s1008/Army%202023%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvvYqO8pFq7gg8qGc1g_Osa6NKwNbhsru55Kk89vvX7zoPWgSBgBeiiN6h9lP5tk1qJv5H6qPby75aO6keonJ_e79gjUDDy0NXkq1B9U8yN7W2x3mzctCGjFQR5WhiAg2Kkm_1NVCXNyKrrJgNVvHSzm_pUbt858FR27YjgyMmHCCSVqLkyqrp2mwLH_7x/s320/Army%202023%201.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLZQe4te_7Og1dVEtlHz9N8HIAxw-KzHr144DQ-26YP6kXYMYYC9FXfVBrKKKn1jYoO9jFGQB5E-wcy79gjRaKWbHStTa5iyHrac9cTmMLumBua9EA1a__s729p6BtpZ4pE1HUQ5-4w0QrpAXL27WboVFN4yenZLbAlfqPcb5FaAs0aNz-UJuJ-tBBy66u/s1008/Army%202023%202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLZQe4te_7Og1dVEtlHz9N8HIAxw-KzHr144DQ-26YP6kXYMYYC9FXfVBrKKKn1jYoO9jFGQB5E-wcy79gjRaKWbHStTa5iyHrac9cTmMLumBua9EA1a__s729p6BtpZ4pE1HUQ5-4w0QrpAXL27WboVFN4yenZLbAlfqPcb5FaAs0aNz-UJuJ-tBBy66u/s320/Army%202023%202.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXDsWTrRVHO0VYzYXrTcYZX0a-wXWRv6EJ6BVjNU-SCGBC9_WMmMQDJeAX3YMgYv5VJ4qTlOVMlyYzr0GNMI2f-CQwMw2jsYuRTjUsePM6TCUoZALTPq-yLThxTwYmx97mGd1mWc51xLc0ph17lr6_rYW8asKBd36Fjl0DhFENw5ikJB7akKOx0TnWWvtw/s1008/Army%202023%203.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXDsWTrRVHO0VYzYXrTcYZX0a-wXWRv6EJ6BVjNU-SCGBC9_WMmMQDJeAX3YMgYv5VJ4qTlOVMlyYzr0GNMI2f-CQwMw2jsYuRTjUsePM6TCUoZALTPq-yLThxTwYmx97mGd1mWc51xLc0ph17lr6_rYW8asKBd36Fjl0DhFENw5ikJB7akKOx0TnWWvtw/s320/Army%202023%203.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9sY81w2ADhuqqIwYpjCrNBbrxTejDGqxWpWOyoc3nOANGcWryk3-5R9Dw-EvpA8PucqeHAT0tdFux7vbafk3rPmMiuY3inS416J7wv9qi4izimHbavWXblkMGWRDK1_g7gUEH1K3F5nnhjiLVvNrfUsGQ05tTsnns30fA96Q5dqIdTjuQ_H265ns4dbQf/s3024/Army%202023%204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2122" data-original-width="3024" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9sY81w2ADhuqqIwYpjCrNBbrxTejDGqxWpWOyoc3nOANGcWryk3-5R9Dw-EvpA8PucqeHAT0tdFux7vbafk3rPmMiuY3inS416J7wv9qi4izimHbavWXblkMGWRDK1_g7gUEH1K3F5nnhjiLVvNrfUsGQ05tTsnns30fA96Q5dqIdTjuQ_H265ns4dbQf/s320/Army%202023%204.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-21129035100389978402023-12-15T10:00:00.001-06:002023-12-15T10:00:00.136-06:00Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Christmas SocialMembers of SCV Camp 1524 and their significant others enjoyed a festive Christmas Social on Friday evening December 8 at the Buena Vista mansion in Prattville. Over fifty were in attendance to enjoy a social hour with pianist and General Lee eggnog. A rousing rendition of Dixie brought the social hour to a close. A delicious catered supper by Smokin S BBQ was served consisting of turkey, dressing, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole along with peach cobbler and banana pudding. Chaplain Brantley blessed the food and after everyone went thru the serving line, they enjoyed more music from the grand piano in the parlor there during their meal. Following supper, a program was held including introduction of the officers and special recognition of those who helped bring the event together like Comms Officer Butler and his wife who made the eggnog and Quartermaster Myrick and his wife who provided the wonderful table centerpieces. A terrific performance of Elvis' Blue Christmas and a cajun Night Before Christmas was made by Rev Ed Shirley who was a recent guest speaker at a Dragoons camp meeting. Rob Schwartz then performed a number of songs including the Night They Drove Old Dixie Down as well as Christmas carols to which everyone sang along. Adjutant Sutherland and Mrs. Edwards then assisted Commander Waldo with the doorprize drawings and everyone left with a nice gift. Commander Waldo then wished all a very merry Christmas and Chaplain Brantley closed with a benediction. It was a wonderful holiday evening in an amazing venue splendidly decorated spent with compatriots to ring in the Christmas season. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8IDT4zGXAQVt_ENzydpuvx4YW0r3TO4rFQtZt1CDO9jor4FxPKVBPWpOxWanjW2lkPPHqkLybjliYBvqOZREPhqoHpatRCk60uzPxp9DQ3dTzMbZD9R6ffQGU1ZeBk4zItgacB-r3_eWnNgbXFwBgSMtOkS5kBTSWKeRTv5YQgVxdi_as8qJCPyafRCWz/s1008/Xmas%20Social%202023%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; Dragoons' Commander Waldo as well as compatriots Bill Hamner and Tyrone Crowley with his wife attended as well as Alabama Division Lt Commander John Land. The event is sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy who provided Christmas presents for the children as well as delicious food and beverages for a lunch prior to the event start. The program was led entirely by the children of the CofC including pledges and salutes to the US, Christian, Alabama and Confederate Battle flags. Songs including the Star Spangled Banner, Faith of Our Father, Alabama and Dixie were sung in between those pledges. The flags were posted by fathers of the children. The childrens' chaplain also led prayers and responsive readings and the CofC creed. Introductions were made of the ladies of the UDC. UDC VP Bearden provided a message of the importance of diaries from the period of the War Between the States which provided first person accounts of the struggles and sacrifices made by the soldiers in battle as well as their families at home. The children participated in the decoration of a Christmas tree there in the CMP chapel. Commander Waldo and Mr. Hamner helped hand out the goodie bags, journals and ornaments as Christmas gifts. A number of them performed songs on instruments including keyboard and stringed harp and Commander Waldo's children played the French horn and snare drum for the Twelve Days of Christmas. Afterward, a Christmas wreath was placed in one of the veterans' cemeteries there at the park. It was an enjoyable and meaningful Christmas event for the children and the adults there. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJwmTYRfcTTAPFO5pGplvRDULaFivW2RPE1e8Wo5jGwfpkZJMeLpEJgpi9gTS3L0TIa-zpTHQN_xcPZxwgzO2MGA_JPBV8LiwDSqbDJSIb2bUp3y76BbWLsR0g3cyB_v0oLScwhlaILVgExukGnEQ_hQz0CNEAf6HTIPW39yGNy6yOqp00m98FNIak7Zlv/s1008/Childrern%20of%20the%20Confederacy%20Christmas%20Program%202023.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1008" data-original-width="756" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJwmTYRfcTTAPFO5pGplvRDULaFivW2RPE1e8Wo5jGwfpkZJMeLpEJgpi9gTS3L0TIa-zpTHQN_xcPZxwgzO2MGA_JPBV8LiwDSqbDJSIb2bUp3y76BbWLsR0g3cyB_v0oLScwhlaILVgExukGnEQ_hQz0CNEAf6HTIPW39yGNy6yOqp00m98FNIak7Zlv/s320/Childrern%20of%20the%20Confederacy%20Christmas%20Program%202023.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-32605783946997065242023-12-10T10:00:00.001-06:002023-12-10T10:00:00.136-06:00Prattville Dragoons SCV Camp 1524 Chaplain's Column for December 2023 - Merry Christmas!<p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><a name="OLE_LINK565"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">First off, I look
forward to seeing many of you at the Dragoons Christmas Social on December 8th!
My thanks in advance to those who have worked so hard to make this a memorable
event. I look forward to it each year. Not just because it is a great event and
I get to eat great food and socialize with many of my Dragoon and SCV brothers,
but also because it forces me to pause. See, I work in Retail, and Christmas
can be anything but joyous and jolly. People are especially hateful this time
of year, when they should be joyous and kind.<o:p></o:p></span></a></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">But then I remember why we gather through the month of December with
friends and family.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We remember that
there is no gift under the tree that is greater than the gift of the Son of
Man, Jesus Christ. He was modestly born in a filthy stable. He would eventually
go to that Cross, die, and rise again! For me! For you! For everyone! This tiny
child would bring light to darkness, smash fear and anger with love. There is
no greater love, no greater gift, than a God who loved us so much that He sent
his son to be tortured and killed so that we can enter his presence in heaven.
I could go on, but there is nothing I can write that can attest to this great
gift adequately. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">It is a gift, no, the gift that you can give yourself. If you have not
already done so, open your heart to the baby in the manger. Be still, get away
from the chaos of the world. Head to the manger and give yourself the gift of
salvation. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

what one thing posters would proclaim as the truth in the face of
insurmountable opposition saying, “Yes, you all are wrong.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As we start into the Christmas season where
we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it struck me that
more than one cited their evangelistic testimony of faith and belief that God
came to Earth incarnate thru the miraculous birth of Jesus to fulfill prophecy
and deliver mankind from our inherent sin to eternal life.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But truly, in today’s culture it is
increasingly in vogue to attack as deplorables those clinging to their
fundamentalist Bibles while pushing doctrinal revisionism including homosexual
marriage and clergy and espousing the virtues of a diverse culture including
world religions like Buddhism, Hinduism, Islamism, and paganism.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Agnosticism and atheism are trumpeted as the
most enlightened perspectives.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As Sons of Confederate Veterans, we have certainly seen the
opposition to our politically incorrect Charge to honor our Confederate
forebears for their courage and fortitude in their struggle for
independence.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We tend to associate and
fraternize with compatriots who share our viewpoint that our ancestors did
their duty in defense of their homes and families against a marauding invading
army hellbent on forcing capitulation to a federal government intent on
subjugating their states and people and destroying their way of life for the
profit of their central imperialistic aims.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>At all turns on X, there are those who maintain that the War Between the
States was caused by the secession of the Southern states who sought only to
perpetuate slavery, as their elementary school history books have indoctrinated
them into thinking, believing their government was wholly right in a crusade to
free the indentured Africans and crush a rebellion.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And the government has been wholly correct
in its prosecution of every war before and since.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Truly, a government which does not seek and
employ such patriotic brainwashing risks a breakdown of citizen’s allegiance, civil
disobedience and insurrection.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But we as SCV members and many as veterans of our country’s
armed forces are uniquely qualified to stand in the face of this opposition and
proclaim what is embodied by the SCV Charge.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We know true Southern history including the “motivating factor in the
South’s decision to fight the Second American Revolution…their belief in the
rights, liberty and freedom guaranteed by the Constitution.” (scv.org) Attended
a Children of the Confederacy Christmas event at Confederate Memorial Park and
noted the similar message conveyed in their Creed which states, “Because we
desire to perpetuate, in love and honor, the heroic deeds of those who enlisted
in the Confederate Army, and upheld its flag through four years of war, we …have
united in an organization (and brotherhood) in which our strength, enthusiasm,
and love of justice can exert its influence.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We, therefore, pledge ourselves to preserve pure ideals; to honor our
veterans; to study and teach the truths of history (one of the most important
of which is, that the war between the States was not a rebellion, nor was its
underlying cause to sustain slavery), and to always act in a manner that will
reflect honor upon our noble and patriotic ancestors."<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Here at Christmas and always, let us boldly
proclaim Christ as the reason for the season and also boldly advance the SCV
Charge to defend the Confederate soldier's good name, guard his history, emulate
his virtues, and perpetuate those principles he loved and which made him glorious.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Deo Vindice.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

The camp matched that cash donation dollar for dollar so a check for $925 was presented to Denise Brown and Josette Dudle, co-directors of the AICC, that along with the 275lb of canned and non-perishable food items. Chaplain Brantley opened the meeting with an Invocation and Color Sgt Dennis then led everyone in the pledges and salutes to the flags followed by the SCV Charge recited by Commander Waldo. Upcoming events were highlighted including all those for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. The camp has a number of veterans and a thanks for their service and wishes for a Happy Veterans Day was expressed by the commander. </p><p>Col. Paul Whaley, a member of Camp 1524 was the speaker who discussed medical conditions and practices during the War Between the States. Paul passed around a minie ball, a modern example and a period artifact as well as a grape shot round and a fractured piece of an artillery shell. These emphasized the size and heft of these lethal projectiles used during the War. Paul reiterated the expression "War is hell" expounding that the depravation, poor food and disease during the WBTS was terrible but if one was injured like hundreds of thousands were, it was worse. The War was the first with modern weapons but Napoleonic tactics which led to massive casualties while there was little knowledge of medicine including infection and disease prevention and few skilled surgeons. One on four soldiers would die of their wounds. Laudanum, opium, morphine and alcohol were the primary painkillers utilized for surgery and post-op but these led to an epidemic of addictions. Surgeries were more often than not performed with the patient fully awake, witnessing the removal of their arm or leg. </p><p>620,000 men dies in the WBTS but actually only 200,000 in battle or from wounds, the balance from disease. There were only a few thousand surgeons in the country at the time of the conflict. Abdominal wounds and compound fractures were almost always fatal due to infection. Fractured bones resulted in amputation of the limb. Removed limbs were thrown into piles sometimes reaching window height at the hospitals where blood stained the floors, still visible hundreds of years later. Amputations were performed in just a few minutes as surgeons moved from patient to patient, often working on their feet for up to 36 hours straight following battles. Often, subsequent amputations were necessary to remove dead bone and flesh and these resulted in even higher mortality rates, around 60%. Gangrene, rotting of the tissue followed many operations due to lack of sterilization of instruments and bandage materials. Arteries in the severed limb area would sometimes fail weeks after the surgeries and the soldiers would bleed out then. Up to 90% of surgeries resulted in eventual death. One story was conveyed of a surgeon who was injured, with his intestines literally hanging from his open abdomen; he assisted a nurse in rinsing off his intestines and sewing himself back up. He actually lived til his death decades later. </p><p>An understanding of germs and disease prevention was totally lacking and latrines were often situated in close proximity to kitchens and living quarters. Soldiers would sometimes just step outside their tents to defecate. Food was often spoiled as preservation using drying, salting or pickling was sometimes not performed properly. Decomposing meat was sometimes served to and consumed by the troops. Pork was the most common meat but it was sometimes undercooked. Bacon grease was the staple for cooking so diets were high in fat and not very nutritious. Diarrhea was common due to the poor food and many died as a result of dehydration - there were no effective treatments and the only option to foregoing poor food was starvation. </p><p>On this Veterans Day weekend, Paul reminded everyone in somber terms of the sacrifices and suffering our Confederate veteran ancestors made during their struggle for independence. He illustrated the brutality of conflict citing the casualties at Franklin TN in 1864 where over 7000 Confederates were killed or wounded in the eight hour long battle and compared that to the 3500 incurred during Pickett's charge at Gettysburg. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDnrWyyaEsnuPQuFjyw2JWs8i6YNiml-Frm2y_lAO66VtI2LoQNDkjXi_E45vqxTlhyq7CH2FreECJbcKAy5vNprhNwBCQH3s6M10Ns_Sm6rnN88EDXE96TOSc5CnRbUIrR92FLgvEdDzv4ulB9IRCbP1iRek8i3hyK-vntzwNlj3ujWBJru7gcz7n5o1/s1008/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%201.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDnrWyyaEsnuPQuFjyw2JWs8i6YNiml-Frm2y_lAO66VtI2LoQNDkjXi_E45vqxTlhyq7CH2FreECJbcKAy5vNprhNwBCQH3s6M10Ns_Sm6rnN88EDXE96TOSc5CnRbUIrR92FLgvEdDzv4ulB9IRCbP1iRek8i3hyK-vntzwNlj3ujWBJru7gcz7n5o1/s320/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%201.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAH75wKnCBFxH15Th-d67NKP8jBKILmcryQNWrUCX0UG9bEooDqLcMRaoWrZixS4xLqz9CVg5zx61AvcWxKBoEOclOqiu9sF0U4fu7rQ-ZgR4ygPRpmFgir3hKJD_n0VYuI8SY9ZS9Q_RIrR92M1Juh8WejV-LC45zUiM0ts-s3InhPDcF9CcyK3PwMNmi/s1008/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="756" data-original-width="1008" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAH75wKnCBFxH15Th-d67NKP8jBKILmcryQNWrUCX0UG9bEooDqLcMRaoWrZixS4xLqz9CVg5zx61AvcWxKBoEOclOqiu9sF0U4fu7rQ-ZgR4ygPRpmFgir3hKJD_n0VYuI8SY9ZS9Q_RIrR92M1Juh8WejV-LC45zUiM0ts-s3InhPDcF9CcyK3PwMNmi/s320/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%202.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVkKm8SsXJ6MEXTiLQnQ-wJf82tF2eSRuCMYICnCVvB9exHLsiyggUPHd4UdUDNCQck9LgXxNr5AzAi5XL0uIebsBBAISKcko0KsLVVJ3Oss97qTNMCyPeWK2aI66ZQ8IQt_NMUCdZoJkrEJy49BOy6rlhyS9lyl3ibeR1XYBY1U6DsHkz7LWrTkXPCBxv/s2000/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%203.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="2000" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVkKm8SsXJ6MEXTiLQnQ-wJf82tF2eSRuCMYICnCVvB9exHLsiyggUPHd4UdUDNCQck9LgXxNr5AzAi5XL0uIebsBBAISKcko0KsLVVJ3Oss97qTNMCyPeWK2aI66ZQ8IQt_NMUCdZoJkrEJy49BOy6rlhyS9lyl3ibeR1XYBY1U6DsHkz7LWrTkXPCBxv/s320/Dragoons%20Camp%20Mtg%20Nov%202023%203.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Sons of Confederate Veteranshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00809186130404760701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6229202435605220184.post-64919512486026037402023-11-07T11:00:00.001-06:002023-11-07T11:00:00.143-06:00Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Commander's Column for November 2023 – Defending God, Family and Country<p></p><div style="border-bottom: solid windowtext 1.0pt; border: none; mso-border-bottom-alt: solid windowtext .5pt; mso-element: para-border-div; padding: 0in 0in 1.0pt 0in;">

listening to the radio on my commute the other day and a state representative
was talking to the host, stating that her family has a history of supporting
the military in service including the Marines but no longer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The host stated that from a Southern cultural
perspective, God and country have been foremost ideals.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But today, the military is woke and the POTUS
administration is pushing an LGBQT agenda with promotions of such throughout
the chain of command and there appears to be a concerted effort to interject
American forces in regional conflicts in theatres from Ukraine to Israel to
Taiwan.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Many look at what transpired in
Afghanistan and particularly the withdrawal and see no point to the sacrifice
of our nation’s young men and our treasury in attaining no clear objectives
except the enrichment of the military industrial complex and the DC and Wall
Street profiteers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></a></p>
<p class="FreeFormA"><span style="mso-bookmark: _Hlk128740080;"><span style="font-size: 9.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">For generations, God,
country and family have been the foundation of the Southern culture.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But today, God in America has been rejected,
prayer removed from our schools and atheism and agnosticism dictating what is
permissible in the public square.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Yahweh
and Jesus Christ are no longer recognized by our leaders as He who bestows our
inalienable rights enumerated in the Constitution.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The pedophile Islamic prophet Mohammed is
given equal weight.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Increasingly, our
legal system views the Constitution as a living document, easily amendable and
progressively interpreted and laws formulated based on secular notions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Christianity has been replaced with diversity
and inclusion of faiths foreign to our founding fathers and our ancestors
including those in direct conflict with our “Judeo-Christian” morals and
values.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kwanzaa is recognized as a
legitimate holiday on par with Christmas and Hanukkah.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our Confederate ancestors experienced one of
the great revivals in history in battlefield encampments during their perilous
fight and upon returning to their impoverished families and devasted homes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>country churches these Confederate veterans founded sit largely empty
now as young people migrate to mega-churches many embracing progressive values
including LGBQT leadership and pastors and teachings.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As we approach Thanksgiving this month of
November, it should be remembered that the CSA was founded on Christian
principles and President Jefferson Davis even proclaimed the first national
Thanksgiving on September 18, 1862, as a day of thanksgiving prayers for the
Confederate States.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="FreeFormA"><span style="mso-bookmark: _Hlk128740080;"><span style="font-size: 9.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;">Our Confederate
ancestors fought for Southern states’ independence but largely from an
individual soldiers’ standpoint, in defense of their very homes and
families.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Today, American military might
is used to project power and protect “American interests” across the globe.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It can be said without debate that modern
wars and the US military buildup has been pursued in an effort to secure
capitalist markets and open trade routes especially for oil products.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That and to ever increase expenditures to
support military contractors supplying the latest weaponry to ensure American
technological preeminence on the battlefields, on and under the ocean and, in
the skies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not since a limited
incursion by Japanese forces during World War II in the Alaskan Aleutian
islands has American soil been fought on.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Our Confederate ancestors fought to defend their very Dixie homeland,
not Afghanistan sand and Kuwaiti oil.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The COVID 19 worldwide vaccination mandates, open borders and migrant
influxes in Europe and the United States, confiscatory taxation and socialist
redistribution, and the shuttering of viable fossil fuel power plants to
embrace wind and solar and electric cars to combat alleged human-induced
climate change are examples of the adoption of a one-world order and dictates
which take away our nationalism and individual freedoms and liberties as
Americans.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Would you enlist or send your
sons and daughters to fight the DC elites’ latest manufactured excuse for a
war?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Does the DC agenda represent the
ideals for which you would lay down your life in defense of a country to which
you can hardly identify any longer?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

I used to blame it on
being Scots Irish or having a red-headed mother. As the years have passed my
anger has grown. It has cost me relationships, interfered with success in jobs
and made life miserable for those around me. While I have never physically hurt
anyone from it, I have hurt those around me deeply with my words. I do realize
I have written on this before, but I feel it is important to discuss on some
given occasions. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">One such occasion recently would be the "melted face" of
Robert E. Lee from the statue in Charlottesville. It was purposefully splashed
across social media by our enemies. I and other Southerners took the
opportunity to "strike back." While it felt good to lash out, it
accomplished very little. Our enemies got the reaction they wanted. I then
wondered how General Lee would have responded to this situation. He probably
would have told us to reflect the love of Jesus and pray for our enemies. Yet
another reason Lee was an infinitely better man and Christian than the author
of this column. And we can look to many of our Confederate ancestors who prayed
for "those people" while engaged in combat with them. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">But what of us? The Bible tells us that the tongue is wicked and the
most powerful muscle in the body. Jesus even spoke in the book of Matthew
(5:21-24) that you can murder someone with your anger. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">I was recently discussing this matter with my dear friend and fellow
Dragoon, Rob Schwartz. He passed along this article to me. Unfortunately, the
author is unknown. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 3.0pt; margin-left: .2in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none; text-indent: .2in;"><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK565;"><span style="background: white; color: #222222; font-size: 9.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">"If you want to tame your temper, you must resolve to manage it. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

Just like love, anger is a choice. When you get angry, you choose to get angry.
Nobody is forcing you to get angry. People often say things like, “You make me
so mad!” But the truth is that nobody can make you mad without your permission.
Anger is a choice, and you must choose to control it if you want to be a loving
person. You have far more control over your anger than you may want to admit.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say you’re at home and you’re in an argument
with somebody in your family. Your voices are raised, and you’re getting
agitated. You’re upset. All of a sudden, the phone rings, and you answer
sweetly, “Hello? Oh, yes! It’s for you, honey!” What happened? You didn’t want
to be embarrassed or have to explain, so you switched your anger off real
quick. Anger is highly controllable! The Bible says in Proverbs 29:11, “Fools
vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back” (NLT). Do you want to be a
foolish person or a wise person? How you respond to a situation is your
responsibility and yours alone. Anger is a choice. The time to decide to manage
your anger is not when your blood pressure is rising, your adrenaline is
shooting into your system, you can feel the flush in your face, and your
muscles start to tense. At that point, you’ve already lost the battle. Instead,
resolve to manage your anger before you go into that meeting or walk through
that front door when you get home. Decide this: “Today, I’m just not going to
get angry. I’m not going to let things get to me.” You manage your anger by
first resolving—deciding in advance—that you’re going to hold it back."<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
