Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Perform First Cemetery Groundskeeping of the Season

As part of the SCV Guardian program, Camp 1524 maintains the grounds at Indian Hill Cemetery in Prattville and Robinson Springs Cemetery in Millbrook.  The first leaf cutting of the season was just completed on Friday March 20 at Indian Hill including cutting down and up three leaning trees.  Camp Treasurer John Dennis  led the effort with his wife Mary Jane helping too.  In addition, prospective member David Whitehead largely did the tree cutting.  Confederate flags placed at graves in the cemetery were replaced.  Much thanks to these compatriots for leading this effort to care for the final resting place of these Confederate veterans including original WBTS Dragoons and many early city founders.

Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Meeting for March 2026

The Dragoons of SCV Camp 1524 met for their monthly meeting on Thursday evening March 12th at the Masonic Lodge in Prattville AL.  Commander Grooms called everyone to order and Chaplain Johnson opened the meeting with an Invocation.  Color Sgt Leverette then led everyone in the pladeges and salutes to the US, Alabama state and, Confederate Battle flags.  Commander Grooms recited the Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans and then detailed all the upcoming events which included flag settings and a tombstone marker dedication for a Confederate veteran on March 28th in time for Confederate History and Heritage month which is April.  The Dragoons spring picnic and the Alabama Division Confederate Memorial Day lead events in April.  Elections for officers for the Dragoons were then conducted with Grooms assuming the role of 1st Lt once more as Commander Waldo returned to that position for another term. All other officers remained in their positions excepting Quartermaster which requires filling although there was interest expressed from one compatriot in serving in that important capacity.  Adjutant Butler and Treasurer Dennis then provided reports for the camp membership rolls and treasury.  Chaplain Johnson then closed the meeting with a Benediction.  Another good meeting for fellowship among the camp membership and to conduct the annual business of the camp.
