Prattville Dragoons Camp 1524 EC Meeting

The Executive Committee for the Prattville Dragoons SCV Camp 1524 met on Tuesday February 7th to discuss upcoming camp activities and plans.  The weekly camp meeting featured speaker will be our own Comunications Officer Tyrone Crowley who will impersonate President Jefferson Davis and read his Richmond inauguration speech.  An announcement will be made requesting nominations for camp officers and in March those elections will be conducted.  All current officers have expressed their willingness to continue in their present capacities.  The EC passed a motion to allocate $350 to purchase flags and other Confederate memorabilia by Wayne Sutherland who has assumed Quartermasters duties from Jeff Potts.  A list of potential items and pricing was generated by 2nd Lt Stuart Waldo.  The March meeting being the annual business meeting will also include a presentation by Treasurer Billy Leverette who provided the camp's account balance.  Wayne indicated that the number of members has stayed pretty constant over the past year and we now have 67 members.  Additional events were mentioned including the Confederate Memorial event in Richmond Feb 25th which is highlighted by a parade downtown. June 8th-10th is the Alabama Division Reunion at Guntersville State Park; the business meeting which will include elections will be held on Saturday the 9th.   The National Convention will be held July 11-14th in Murfreesboro TN and Gen. Forrest will be highlighted with the annual Cavalry breakfast as well as tours of the site of one of his first great victories. The Dragoons camp picnic will be held April 14th and a historian from Fairhope will be a keynote speaker providing an historical account of the last slave ship to land in Mobile.  Also a gentleman from New Jersey will be bringing his sword from the 3rd Alabama Division, Company H.  Tom Snowden will also provide some great singing as usual.  Of course we will also be placing flags on all the Confederate graves at the Memorial Park prior to this program and the picnic proper.  Two weekends prior, on Saturday March 31st we will be placing flags at Oak Hill Cemetary in Prattville.  Additionally, Prattville Cityfest will be held May 5th so the Quartermasters stores need to be filled by that time to support that event.  Tyrone also shared a flyer for the Sam Davis Youth Camp which is a terrific week long camp providing kids lectures and activities to provide them an appreciation of the Confederate cause and history.
