The Confederate
first national flag was raised March 4th, 1861 by Letitia Tyler, the 18 year
old grand daughter of U.S. President John Tyler, above the capitol in
Montgomery. She is buried in the St. Margaret's section of Montgomery's Oakwood
cemetery.
Also, on March 4,
1865 President Jefferson Davis signed a bill passed by the Confederate Congress
creating the 3rd National Flag.
