Dragoons Enjoy Millbrook Mardi Gras Parade

Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 had a good showing in the Millbrook Mardi Gras parade on Saturday January 30th with seven members participating and Danny Smyth towing his cannon. The Dragoons were a big hit, as usual, and gave out all the recruiting coins, miniature battle flags, candy and beads available. The battle flags were very popular as usual and all ran out before the Dragoons reached the end of the parade route. Several people encouraged Danny to fire the cannon and perhaps that can be done next year if the details can be arranged. There were many happy smiles from the crowd and our participants as we traveled the distance from Mill Creek Park south of town on Main Street at Smoke House Bar B Que past the Millbrook Village Green and City Hall.

Pictured below you will see participants Commander Stuart Waldo, 2nd Lt. Commander George Jenks, Bill Gill, Quartermaster Bill Myrick, Danny Smyth,  Adjutant Wayne Sutherland and Larry Spears.  Photos show Danny’s cannon on the “float” with George Jenks and Larry Spears on guard and Commander Waldo and Adjutant Sutherland leading our entry with the camp banner displayed.  It was an absolutely beautiful day and a great time to publicly display and share our
Southern Heritage.
