Prattville Dragoons Commander's Column for December 2015

From the Camp 1524 Dispatch Newsletter:

November ushered in new attacks on our Southern heritage and the Confederate Battle flag.  Entitled beneficiaries of racial preference admissions programs at the University of Missouri complained about discrimination and a white-privilege culture on campus and that, brace yourself, that they were called names.  And, now make sure you are sitting down, that as these anarchist malcontents were staging their sit-in on the campus quad, a truck drove by displaying the Confederate Battle flag.  How dare they!  Rush Limbaugh reported on the situation, “There were two hoaxes that got this whole thing started.  There was never a swastika of poop.  It was totally made up.  And this Butler kid, the hunger striker, he comes from a wealthy family in Nebraska. His father is a railroad executive, but he lost his health care as an undergraduate because of Obamacare.  Another MU student claimed that the KKK was on campus, and it turns out he totally made it up.  The whole thing was practically a hoax.  Every bit of it.  None of it, very little of it was real, and certainly the allegations of blatant racism and all this were totally made up and manufactured.”  http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/11/11/we_ve_been_hoaxed_again_folks) And yet the President and chancellor of the Missouri university system were forced out, fired for failure to pacify these anarchists.  Some thirty members of the University of Missouri football team threatened to not play another game in a show of support for this fabricated nonsense.  And their coach, Gary Pinckel, instead of explaining that they were risking forfeiture of their scholarships and that they would be replaced on the roster displayed utmost cowardice and ignorance endorsing their public statement.
Of course racial statistics demonstrating that the University had fallen short of their obvious quota to maintain the same racial demographics in the student body as for the state of Missouri were immediately produced to show that the University of Missouri had only around 8% blacks constituting the student body whereas the state population was 11.7% black. Admissions criteria such as entrance scores are irrelevant.  Failed to mention of course that according to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and their latest statistics in 2013 (http://dhe.mo.gov/data/statsum/), 10.7% of students in the state’s public institutions were black ethnicity and, when including private independent institutions in the state, this figure rises to 12.0%, greater than the state population demographic.  Somebody in the University of Missouri campus police department needs to wisen up and go arrest some people for disorderly conduct and Pinkel needs to just go retire.  I have never been such an ardent Tennessee football fan as I was last week when TN spanked Missouri and sent the Mizzou football players back to Columbia MO to sing kumbaya.  But the University of Missouri administration instead gave credence to the anarchy, to the hoax.  And of course, similar movements popped up all over the country in short order from Claremont McKenna College in California to Ithaca College in New York to Loyola in Chicago to Yale University and even at Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.

And in California, “The college student who stabbed four people was carrying an image of the black flag of ISIS as well as a handwritten manifesto with instructions to behead a student and multiple reminders to pray to Allah, yet authorities continued to insist Faisal Mohammad’s motives had nothing to do with radical Islam.”  (Fox News, Malia Zimmerman, Hollie McKay, Nov. 11, 2015)  What alternate reality is being thrust upon us where an inquisition for a single photograph showing the deranged Charleston murderer with a Confederate flag causes a nationwide movement to remove and ban the historic venerable Confederate Battle flag from public display and any mention of the perpetrators drug use, depression and schizophrenia, and reclusive misanthropy were ignored in favor of a PC assault on Southern heritage.  Mustn’t offend the radical Islamic jihadists though.

Despite the tumultuous events of this year from the heritage attacks following the Charleston tragedy seemingly continuing without end to the apparent growing anarchy threatening our institutions and neighborhoods across the country, we have reason to be thankful.  We are blessed to know the truth of the Cause and to be able to share it and promote it in our community.  This Christmas season is a wonderful time of the year to fraternize with compatriots at numerous holiday events.  The Dragoons and their guests look forward to enjoyable festivities at the Prattville Christmas parade and the Christmas Social at Buena Vista.  The float preparation, walking the parade route with the Christmas lights shining and greeting everyone with cheers and hundreds of Confederate flags, SCV coins and candy is always a great start to the December holiday season. The annual Christmas Social at the beautiful historic Buena Vista mansion offers another opportunity to enjoy a program with Christmas dinner, General Lee eggnog and Christmas carols sung together and played on the grand piano with friends from our camp and around the Division. It is a refreshing affirmation when we still can enjoy a fraternity of like-minded individuals such as the Prattville Dragoons.  Thank goodness for Sweet Home Alabama.  Thank God for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, our families, friends and neighbors.  I hope you and yours enjoy a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a wonderful holiday season.
