Prattville Dragoons April Camp Meeting Picnic to Celebrate Confederate History and Heritage Month

April Meeting Will Be A Picnic!
In lieu of the Dragoons' regular second Thursday meeting, in April, Camp 1524 will hold our annual picnic.  The picnic will take place on Saturday 5 April 2014, 10 am - 2 pm, at Confederate Memorial Park in Mountain Creek AL near Marbury just off Hwy 31.  The program will include music by Chaplain Tom Snowden, an address by Commander Stuart Waldo including a presentation of the donation to the Alabama State Archives for flag preservation, as well as the swearing-in of the camp officers for the coming year.
But, the morning activities will begin at 9 a.m. with the setting of flags on all 300+ Confederate graves at Confederate Memorial Park, Cemeteries 1 and 2.  Bring your children and grandchildren, who always enjoy this activity.  Always a beautiful sight to see the hundreds of Battle Flags waving in the crisp spring breeze.
The picnic will follow the flag setting and program.  We will enjoy Fatman’s BBQ as our main dish (thanks to Dragoons Skip Ward and Bill Hamner), plus camp stew, plus sides and desserts provided by members and wives.  If you are a single person don’t worry—just come on and enjoy yourself.  There are picnic tables to sit under the pavilion, but bring a folding chair if you want to relax and get comfortable. The program and picnic will be held at Pavilion 2 just inside the west gate to the Confederate Memorial Park.
Bring the family and enjoy the food and fellowship at the Dragoons annual picnic.  There is a Living History presentation occurring at the same time at the Park which provides a wonderful opportunity to see camp life of the Confederate soldiers and the schedule includes a reenactment skirmish at 1pm following the Dragoons picnic. See you there!
