Prattville Dragoons June 2014 Camp Meeting Report - Dragoons Revived!

The Dragoons held their monthly camp meeting on Thursday June 12th at the Shoney's on Cobbs Ford Road in Prattville.  1st Lt Harold Grooms led the meeting in the absence of the camp commander and provided the SCV Charge, welcome and announcements including the upcoming Prattville July 4th parade and introduced the guest speaker for the evening.  Larry Spears and Allen Herrod spoke about the first Indian Hills Cemetery cleanup day, the first of a series as part of the restoration efforts there headed by Benny Harris. Chaplain Tom Snowden opened the meeting with an invocation  and closed another outstanding camp meeting, sending everyone home with a closing benediction.  Chaplain Snowden was also presented with a Meritorious Service Certificate from incoming SWC Brigade Commander David Brantley.  Pledges to the flags were led by Color Sgt Brent Jenks.

The Prattville Dragoons Camp 1524 Sons of Confederate Veterans experienced a true religions revival at our monthly meeting June 12th!  Reverend Michael Howell, Associate Pastor Trinity Presbyterian Church in Montgomery gave an outstanding presentation on the effects of the religious revivals that swept the South and particularly the Army of Northern Virginia in 1863.  Led by none other than Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, Confederate soldiers renewed their spiritual commitments in mass, following the examples of their leaders who often prayed and worshiped with their men.  The true spiritual revivals verified the old adage:  there are no atheists in foxholes!
